Negatives/transparencies are scanned full frame with a small amount of border unless otherwise specified. Scanner is set to specified samples per inch (optical resolution). Files are not upsampled to increase size. Input histograms are adjusted to include the entire tonal range of the film, not necessarily for color balance - a color balance toning layer is included on the downsampled proxy. Originals must be flexible enough to wrap onto the scanner drum. Scans are spotted to remove small imperfections on the film to restore the true image. Extensive damage (pervasive scratches/embedded particles/stains, etc. which require more than a basic cleanup) can also be repaired for an additional $40 per half hour of work. Scans are usually completed in 72 hours of receipt, but may take longer depending on volume. Rush service (24-hour turnaround) requires an additional 100% surcharge - call for availability. Prices include writing to optical media or user-supplied portable FireWire or USB hard drive. |

* 4000 samples per inch is not recommended for color negative films due to film grain aliasing. 2000 spi exhibits less grain aliasing than 4000, but not as smooth as downsampling from 8000 spi. ** This file is downsampled internally by the scanner from an optical sampling resolution of 8000 spi to comply with a 2GB file size limit imposed by the scanner software. Prices and specifications quoted herein are subject to change. |
