• Negatives/transparencies are scanned full frame with a small amount of border (film rebate) unless otherwise specified.

• Scanner is set to specified samples per inch (optical resolution).

• Files are not upsampled to artificially increase size.

• Input histograms are individually adjusted to include the entire tonal range of each piece of film, not necessarily for color balance - a color balance toning layer is included on the downsampled proxy.

• Originals must be flexible enough to wrap onto the scanner drum.

• Scans are spotted to remove small imperfections on the film to restore the true image.

* 4000 samples per inch is not optimal for color negative films due to film grain aliasing. 2000 spi exhibits less grain aliasing than 4000, but not as much as an 8000 spi file or downsampled from it.

 

** This file is derived from an original optical scanning resolution of 8000 spi and downsampled internally by the scanner due to a 2GB file size limit imposed by the Trident scanning software.
